Stuart,

Where is the voice of The Blue Collar Farrier?? If you flag up Cliff Barnes we saw where his loyalties lay at FRC on 27th June 2013, when as a representative of Blue Collar Farriers he was about as useful as gelding to a stud farm.

There you go again Peter. Insult after insult.

I take it you havent found any viable and solid alternative routes to the apprenticeship apart from Stuarts.

Chris,

Surely we only need one!! We are working as a team both of us having introduced the topic as and when we were members of FRC. We saw the Ofsted SSFA government training debacle coming!! Others trusted the officers within the NFTA to monitor and advise them, A MISTAKE??

Funny ain't it we Stuart and I first flagged up the need to modify the training matrix and deplete the incestious relationship between the CARTEL FARRIER TRAINING membership but BABA got a seat on the formation board 1 of 16. So you tell us on this site HOW that happened??.

Still haven't got any data from the CARTEL, but awaiting!!

The thoughts of your Southern Area Craft Elected Member on FRC. CS Craig.

AN ALTERNATIVE FOR THE FUTURE OF FARRIERY.

We are so used to the current system, but how do you feel about an alternative, WILL THIS WORK??

Your thoughts please. [Its Urgent now].

The introduction of another employment role within farriery, "THE FARRIER ASSISTANT". Their employment available to all Dip WCF Exam Qualified Registered Farriers.

To encompass the present pre-farrier course [modified]. To include:- Close contact horse handling. Shoe removal. Hoof Trimming and Barefoot Maintenance. Post Shoeing Finishing Off. Where and when needed the upgrading of Maths, English Skills, Welding and IT.

No requirement for Shoe making, Fitting and Nailing on to be strictly PROHIBITED with STIFF PENALTY for employer deviations under the FRC disciplinary code for transgression.

On completion a continuance onto a Pre-Dip WCF Exam Element, working with a ATF. The pre Dip to follow the similar route as that is presently undertaken.

Reasons.:-

To give every farrier the opportunity to employ someone and to give the farrier assistant a supervised go at farriery and come out with a qualification, that could be taken to other industries, if farriery is found to be not for them.

This would remove the illegal situation to ATFs and other farriers from employing lay workers to work with them, which is an abuse yet a widespread and common practice.

Once they have qualified to become ASSISTANT FARRIERS, they will be eligible to go into farriery proper, and whilst waiting for a place continue working with farriers and receive decent wages.

Aint no secret.
WCF started a group to look at the training system and how to improve it for the future. possibly from your two inputs on FRC.
we heard about it and wanted to be involved but got stonewalled.
A little pissed off we decided to run on our own and got all that we thought should be involved in discusion.
Now three years later and because the EC are all, or have been training farriers we are a good point of contact for involvement within the discusion groups.
It is vital that farriers are involved within the decision making for our future apprentices.

Do you not read what is written infront of you?
No it was not our idea alone. You cannot sit on the sidelines just shouting about but what should be done but you have to work within a group with all the
relevent parties involved.

Chris thanks for your input however 15 people are deciding the future Cliff is the only farrier.
the WCF DO NOT WANT OUR INPUT. if its mentioned they add another farrier in this case Craig on Thursday and asked him to ask farriers is this a fair representation of the craft.

Firstly,
We would like to thank Csc, we applaud you on your sterling efforts to bring a first class training proposal to the table, something the WCF, (fools) have failed to manage, i fear by now they should acknowledge you for your work in the interest of farriery, training.

Hope you receive an (HON FELLOWSHIP ) for all your hard work.

Well I strongly believe this is the only honest way forward, government needs to know how the tax payers money is spent, which should be on training apprentices and ATF's, let go back to keeping it simple and keep some sticky fingers out of the honey pot.

Regards,

E.W.

EW,

I agree!! CSC has worked his butt off on this one, his outcome will with a small amount of adjustment fit the needs of FUTURE FARRIER TRAINING. It ticks all the boxes!! and at a near ZERO cost to HM Government!!

The NFTA driven by WCF left our training matrix in shreds and effectively FUTURE BANKRUPT!! due it seems to lack of actioned forethought. It seems if the money came rolling in the body politic just had to decide how to spend in, any offered reconsideration was STONEWALLED by the Cartel [thankyou for that comment BFBA, CL].

I worked on the senario of funding failure and in-efficences in training many years ago with My Brother, the then only Field officer [he got sacked??] and the then Chair of FRC, a very wise lady indeed. Her comment still rings in my ears. This is an Elephant of a problem, so "How do you eat an elephant" ?? Her reply "Reduce it to bite size chunks"!! Thankyou CSC that' whats you have demonstrated how to do here, and supported with an unforeseen help from Ofsted and SSFA it will now happen one way or tother.

Stuart, A CAUTION those feeding from the trough won't like this, particlarly when modified by debate from the blue collar trade, [I agree I see it as the ONLY viable solution [" Thankyou EW"]. The Body Politic/Cartel Farrier Training will without doubt turn the food sauce pan over in temper, please be careful the trow that will without doubt follow doesn't crush you!!

Real regards,

PNB.
